What’s with the name? It’s a play on words derived from stereotypical baby talk and Greek mythology. I’m sure you’ve heard people say, “goo goo ga ga” when they’re imitating a baby’s babbling. Well, that’s the first part of our name, indicating that we cater to babies and families. Gaia in ancient Greek mythology was the goddess of the earth. The Gaia hypothesis (also known as “the Gaia theory”) argues that the earth operates as a living being with interrelating functions. We happen to agree with this theory and believe we should do what we can to respect and preserve the earth, because it is our gift as well as our responsibility. Our company aims to help parents raise their children in an earth-friendly manner.

My name is Denise and I’m the owner of Goo Goo Gaia, a WAHM-owned and family-operated natural parenting boutique. Goo Goo Gaia was born (pun intended) out of my own desire to parent my child as naturally as possible. When my husband and I were trying to conceive, it initially never occurred to me that there were choices out there for diapering. Like most people, I figured I’d be hitting up supermarkets and warehouse stores to buy disposable diapers. It wasn’t until a friend brought up the issue of cloth diapering to me that I’d even considered it. Upon further research, I found out how much money my family could save and how our environmental footprint could be reduced by using cloth diapers.

After our daughter was born, it didn’t take us long to realize that cloth diapering was one of the best parenting decisions we could have made. Not only have we saved a lot of money and done something good for the planet, but our daughter has benefitted tremendously. She’s never had diaper rash* and started potty-training at just a year old! We’re convinced that those and many other wonderful benefits were direct results of our decision to use cloth diapers. And I was also pleasantly surprised to see that cloth diapering wasn’t nearly as messy as I’d imagined!

Whether it’s through diapers, diet, or everyday living, we try to live our lives conscious of how our decisions impact our health, our community, and our planet. Helping other parents achieve these same goals is my passion, and it’s our prayer that you’ll use Goo Goo Gaia as your natural parenting resource. We’re a growing company and are always expanding our offerings. Our family looks forward to serving your family!

*While cloth diapers have been connected with reduced occurrences of diaper rash, we must remind you that even cloth diapered babies can and do get diaper rash. It is important that you change your baby’s diaper regularly and promptly after it has been soiled, whatever kind of diaper you use.
